~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Tamara moved to Utah in the early 90’s and settled in Heber in 2004 with her two children.   She began painting at a community art class when she lived in Florida and has since studied art at the University of Utah, and is pursuing a Masters in Fine Art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.  Her work has been juried into the Utah Arts Council statewide painting exhibition and was selected for the yearlong travelling exhibition.  She also has exhibited at the Kimball Art Center, Park City Utah; the Park City Arts Festival; Spiro Art Center; Grand Festival of Art, Fairhope, Alabama, and the Wasatch Plein Air Paradise competition in Midway Utah to name a few.
Tamara spent much of her career as an engineer and analyst, working with numbers, so she is immensely gratified to explore the world of painting.  She has explored different styles and mediums as well.  She began her painting journey with watercolors, but has since switched to oil painting, preferring the texture and luminosity of the medium over watercolor. Much of her inspiration comes from the rural countryside in the Heber valley, but the red rock country in southern Utah is a favorite subject as well.
“I love to paint outdoors; it brings me back to the times of childhood when I could explore the woods, swim in the creek or walk the gulf coast beaches.   And it usually brings a lovely surprise like when a young buck mule deer in velvet ambled up next to me or an American Dipper sang at my feet on the edge of the river as I painted.  Painting has allowed me to take the time to notice my surroundings and appreciate the beauty that surrounds me here in Utah.  I’m drawn to the play of light and shadow on the landscape, especially at the golden hour of evening. Now I’m painting more with a palette knife and in the future I’d like to work more with figures in landscapes to add interest and tell more of a story.  No matter what direction my painting takes, it will always bring a sense of wonder as the color blooms onto a blank canvas and emerges  into something beautiful that I hope will touch a common cord, experience or emotion in others.”
